MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR PHONE

1. You need to download two files:
x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw and iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw. You can get both of them over here:

2. Make sure you have itunes 7.7 installed.

for vista: Click start then copy this into the search box and press enter after:
for XP: click start then run, then copy this into the run box:

3. Make a directory callled: Device Support

If it already exists, clear it.

4. copy x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw into the Device Support folder you just created.

5. ok, you need to get your device into DFU mode. watch this video to see how:

6. Once your phone is in DFU mode and detected by iTunes (should be black screen on phone NOT itunes logo with usb cable), click on iphone in itunes, then hold the SHIFT key and click on restore.

7. Browse to the folder where you downloaded iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw and select it. itunes will then extract the file and you will see the ipod dev team’s pinapple logo pop up after a few seonds, like this:

8. when restoring has completed, it will ask you to connect to itunes, then re-do the activation process (download carrier settings)

9. Restore your backup! this should automatically be made. it should pop up right after downloading carrier settings, but you may also do it by right clicking your iphone on the left, and selecting “restore iphone”

10. That’s it, you’re done!

save file and it will jailbreak the new iphone 3g, along with the ipod touch with 2.0 upgrade.

Step 1: If you are at 1.1.4 or lower, restore a fresh 2.0. If you are already at 2.0 this is not necessary. You can follow the restore guide for help on restoring in iTunes. Note: you may see “Preparing iPhone software for restore” for a very long time. Could be 10 minutes. This is normal. Don’t panic and stick with it. Note 2: If you get error 1600 you may try restore mode instead of DFU mode. It can be finicky. Try going back and forth from restore to DFU mode.

Step 2: Extract the zip file. Extract the rar file for the bootloaders and put that in your Documents folder. Load up the pwnage tool. You will see this screen so click away the warning. Note: some folks having problems loading the pwnage tool and the icon just sits there bouncing. You may try clearing your cache by deleting the {your name}/Library/Caches folder and/or /Library/Caches and reboot. You may also try booting into safe mode.

Step 3: At the top, select “Simple Mode” and click the phone or iPod that matches your device.

Step 4: Select the 2.0 firmware you used to restore your phone in step 1 and click the blue next arrow.

Step 5: Select your bootloaders that you downloaded from step #1. You will be presented a screen asking you if you wish to search the web for the bootloaders. Select NO.

Step 5a: Now select YES you wish to browse for the 3.9 bootloader.

Step 6: Repeat steps 5 for the 4.6 bootloader files.

Step 7: You will be prompted to create a custom FW image now. Select YES unless you have already done so in which case you can select NO. For first time users select YES. If you select NO, you will skip to step 10.

Step 8: You are asked “Are you legit iPhone”. This means do you need to unlock and activate (NO) or do you have a contract carrier like AT&T (YES). Select NO to unlock, YES to not unlock. (Note: if you do not unlock and you do not have a contract carrier, you will be stuck at connect to iTunes screen and will need to repeat this tutorial again).

Step 9: Wait for custom IPSW / custom restore image to be generated. This takes a few minutes. Also, be prepared to enter your password as part of the process.

Step 10: If your iPhone has been pwned before, say YES. Otherwise say NO. Note: if you have restored a generic image, you should say NO. Only say yes if you have pwned and your iPhone boots with the pineapple or custom boot image. If you pwned 1.1.4, you do not have to pwn again. This will pwn your phone. There is no harm in pwning your phone again, so if you’re in doubt go ahead and say NO.

Step 11: You are now instructed how to get into DFU mode. These steps are identical to my steps here. Follow the steps and you will be fine. If you get lost or behind just click my link and do it manually. Remember, DFU mode means you will not see anything on your iPhone screen. It will appear as it if is turned off but the computer will see the phone.

Step 12: Restore your custom firmware in iTunes. Remember you need to use Option-Restore to select your custom firmware file.

Step 13: Wait for iTunes to finish its restore. This takes a while. Be patient.

Step 14: If you selected “NO” to a legit phone, wait for bootneuter to run and do its thing.

Congratulations. You have a freshly pwned phone.This will provide you with stock iPhone + Cydia. At this point, there is no other 2.0 software out from the community. All the installer apps will not work. You will need to be patient as apps get ported and show up within Cydia.

downgrade your iphone from 2.0

this has been performed on a PC.

Ok, so you updated to iTunes 7.7 and then installed 2.0 and you’re stuck. Here are the steps to downgrade to 1.1.4. Note that the result of this guide will be that you will be back to 1.1.4 version of firmware with baseband of 2.0 (4.05.04_G).

1) The first problem in your downgrade is that you probably are getting error 20 in restore mode and error 160x in DFU mode. This is due to iTunes 7.7. So, you now you need to uninstall iTunes 7.7 and install iTunes 7.5. Make sure after your iTunes 7.7 uninstall you reboot your pc as it requests you to. **OSX users, see note at bottom of page to downgrade your iTunes.

2) Now that you have iTunes 7.5, you will still have the DFU driver for 7.7. This is good and will allow the process to work. Put your phone into DFU mode using the DFU steps.

3) Restore using iTunes 7.5. You will get an error like 1011, 1013, 1015. This is normal and expected. An error 1601, 1602, 1600 or anything else is not ok.

4) Once you get error above, leave iTunes open and kick your phone out of restore mode. I recommend just loading winpwn(PC) or pwnage(MAC) and pwning the device at this point. If pwnage fails to work, you need to restore your phone again. You should be able to use normal restore mode, however. Other ways to kick out of restore mode may be ibrickr, jailbreak 1.1.2 (boot phone), iLiberty+.

5) Once completed, you have a pwned device with baseband 4.05.04_G from firmware v2.0.

6) To get back to 04.04.05_G (1.1.4 baseband) load bootneuter. If you don’t have this, install it from installer. Run bootneuter with Neuter, 4.6, and unlock. When it’s done, you will have an unlocked 04.04.05_G right back where you started.

Note: if you get a boot neuter error like 05, 02 or such, you probably have more steps. Unfortunately, there is no safe answer to this one.The only method I know of to do this is to use a patched version of Ziphone as described here. Before you do this, you should know the risks. Read my Ziphone warning here. Your other option is to just wait for dev teams pwnage v2.0.

Note for OSX users:
If you are on OSX and want to attempt to downgrade your iTunes, you can try these steps:

Load up Terminal and type the following:
killall iTunesHelper
sudo -s
rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app
rm -r /Library/Receipts/iTunesX.pkg
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app
rm -r /Library/Receipts/iTunesX.pkg
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
rm -r /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

AT&T and online Apple fan sites said yesterday that some customers left stores without a working phone because of problems linking the device to Apple’s iTune service, the last step in the activation process. AT&T told buyers told to link to iTunes from home.

What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.

You have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required. Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.

The “early upgrade” price is for those who do not qualify as “eligible” due to length of contract, payment history, non-pay suspensions and other factors. Either way you wil not be activating it through iTunes or at the Apple store you will be activating it at the AT&T corporate store nearest you.

If you already have an iPhone you automatically qualify for the subsidized pricing $299 or $399 depending on the model. You will then be able to hand down the old iPhone to someone or sell it if you so wish.
If you are a new customer you also qualify for the subsidized pricing.

If you get a discount on your bill through your employer, the discount does not apply to the original iPhone data plan but it will apply to iPhone 3G and that is nice due to the fact that iPhone 3G data plans are $10 higher and do not include text. (Just like existing Blackberry and PDA plans)

If you upgrade from an existing iPhone you will keep your old phone. Sell it, give it away, hand it down..

You will NOT be asked at any point to turn in your existing iPhone..

Topday AT&T formally announced details regarding the iPhone, including customer eligibility and different pricing plans. The 8GB 3G iPhone will cost $199, and the 16GB iPhone will cost $299. These prices will be available to customers who purchased an iPhone before July 11; to new customers; and to any customer who is eligible for an upgrade discount. Customers who are not eligible for a discount may pay $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Either way, a new two-year agreement is required. At some point in the future, AT&T will offer no-contract availability of the 3G iPhone at the full retail price of $599 and $699 price for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively. The iPhone will require one of four plans, which bundle voice minutes with unlimited data for web and email use. The unlimited minutes and data plan will cost $130 per month, the 1350-minute plan will cost $110, the 900-minute plan will cost $90 and the 450-minute plan will cost $70. Separate family plans are also available. Messaging is not included in any of these plans and must be added separately. $20 buys unlimited messaging, $15 buys 1500 messages, and $5 buys 200 messages per month. As noted previously, any iPhone customer seeking corporate email support will need a $45 business data plan.
